Having recently opened, Yumfizz decided to test it out for lunch on a Saturday in early January with some friends.
With a small enclosed terrace at the rear, a few tables inside, and a good sized terrace on the small side street. Decor is modern, light and sophisticated.
The Yum: The base ethos of the restaurant is the name and chief ingredient for the majority of the menu. We opted to share a salmon tartar and gorgonzola/aubergine croquettes to start, after being presented with an amuse bouche of small stuffed mushrooms. Main courses were a (very generous size) pastrami sandwich, lasagne of vegetables and tuna Bolognese and fillet of fish. Sadly all the dishes didn’t quite reach expectations. The croquettes were bland, tartare was of marinated salmon not completely fresh tasting, and the vegetables in the lasagne not cooked through.
The Fizz: As the prices of red wine started at 29eur for the cheapest, we opted by the glass. It was a good quality Ribera del Duero and the waiter let us taste it first. Choice is somewhat limited but they stock some special wines.
The rest: Service was pleasant but slow, probably due to food being prepared freshly in the small open kitchen. It’s a new venue and needs time to settle in but the food quality and the service doesn’t match the price point. The ambience is one of sophistication but we weren’t convinced.
Yumfizz rating: 6/10.
