Yumfizz

Enjoying Marbella, restaurant by restaurant…

La Aquarela, Patalavaca, Gran Canaria

A little off piste, Yumfizz took a well deserved short break to the Canaries to celebrate a birthday and relax. A visit to 1 star Michelin rated establishment to enjoy their full Tasting Menu (The Experience) with wine pairing was an definite highlight.

The Yum:  There is a limited choice of tasting menus including a spectacular and very popular vegetarian option. No A la Carte. As prior reservation is necessary, we tweaked one of the dishes to suit a non-game eater, and they were more than accommodating. To describe all of the dishes we ate would need pages. Their USP is that around 85% of their product is all local. Foams, tuna tartar, limpets, unusual home-baked breads, fish rolled in candy floss, the best quail ever eaten were just some of the memorable dishes. Amuse-bouche based on Canarian cheeses were spectacular. Our vegetarian diner was equally excited and impressed with new flavours from the Harvest Menu option.

The Fizz: Nine different wine pairings from the Canaries, Spain and France were matched perfectly with each dish, each one in beautiful and differently shaped glasses. One memorable red wine had an interesting sulphur aroma to it and another was so good that we ordered an extra glass to accompany the optional cheese course.

The Rest: Absolutely perfect for a special dinner or celebration. Not your every day menu, it’s aimed at the discerning diner who is looking for tastes and flavours that they won’t have experienced before. Service was impeccable, view was stunning and price was fully expected as we had researched their website. The evening definitely lists as a magic memory.

Yumfizz rating: A well deserved 10/10
