A firm favourite for us when we are looking for good quality Spanish home cooking – just like out of Grandma’s kitchen. They have plenty of outside seating street side, but we live sitting inside to admire the homely decor.
The Yum: the menu is handwritten every day on a sheet of A4 attached to a clipboard. Portions are generous so the best idea is to share and ask for dishes to come out slowly, to allow time to savour all the delicious food. Don’t miss the wonderful choices of best quality olive oil for the bread. Mozzarella/avocado salad, juicy fat boquerones, seared Almadraba tuna with Pisto, Meatballs and baby lamb leg were all presented and devoured by us. The tortilla here is highly recommended as long as you like it soft in the middle.
The Fizz: Their wine list is presented on the label of a large magnum bottle. Such fun. We opted for a Magnum of excellent dark red ruby Ribera del Duero priced at a very reasonable 40eur.
The Rest: Book well in advance as they’re popular, mainly with locals. We received a really warm welcome from our waitress – helped along by the fact that we speak Spanish but they do their best with English language too. Payment is only in cash here. The detail of bringing a perch to hang our handbags on was genius, as well as the frequent changes of our plates and cutlery in between courses.
Yumfizz rating: 10/10 when you are looking for good home cooking.
