Málaga is blessed with a plethora of absolutely amazing places to eat but we were looking for a tasting menu (small dishes) with pairing of local wines and an accessible price. Matiz ticked all those boxes.
The Yum: 10 tastings including mouthfuls of pickled vegetables and anchovy tartlet, fois millefeuille, aged beef croquette, fresh shrimps in chili pepper dressing, scallop, beef sirloin and two amazing desserts – really doesn’t get much better. Everything was delicious and the olive oil served with the fresh bread was outstanding.
The Fizz: We began with a lovely vermouth cocktail (loved the basil leaf), and we’re treated to a selection of local Málaga wines (a dry Moscatel, Chardonnay, Garnacha) finishing with a Pajarete sherry with our desserts. The wines are not unusual in the area, but matched well with the food and a perfect introduction for visitors.
The Rest: Service in Matiz is very professional and attentive. If anything, the service could have been little slower just to allow us more time to enjoy – but others may prefer prompt delivery. Decor is colourful and stylish and lighting was great for the ambience (not so for taking out foodie pics lol). This menu was set at 62eur/head and pairing an additional 22eur which offered great value for money. Can highly recommend it if you are looking for something fine dining special, without a huge hungry appetite and not necessarily Michelin category. Absolutely perfect if you are visiting Malaga.
