Having heard that it had very recently (less than a month ago) opened, we decided to try it out on Friday evening. Located in the centre of Calahonda, directly opposite El Zoco, it’s super easy to walk there if you are staying close by.
The Yum: There are several pages of menu as they are also open for breakfast (served until 14hr) as well as lunch (sandwiches etc until 5pm). As we were 4, we opted to share starters of steak tartare (comes ready mixed and seasoned but very tasty), and gorgonzola and caramelised onion toasts. Both were very tasty and a good size. Mains were beef cheeks (melt in the mouth), an extremely good Angus burger and chips and super tender chicken breast marinated in herbs. The food is beautifully presented and the chef clearly knows what he is doing as he combines his dishes with a condiment of savoury flavoured ice-cream. This is his hallmark. However, a very useful tip would be to serve the ice-cream separately or at the table to enable the main dish to be served hot and on a hot plate.
The Fizz: We drank a very acceptable bottle of red tempranillo costing 14eur. The chupitos of homemade peach and chilli and pineapple were very much appreciated.
The Rest: The restaurant hasn’t been open for long and there are some things that can be improved. Definitely needs some proper seating cushions.
It may be a good idea to separate out the menus to make selection easier rather than have to flick through several pages.
But – Henryk the Chef-Owner clearly knows how to cook and the restaurant is very very different to anything else in the area. As a local business, we will do our best to support him.
